Writing To Heal From Narcissistic and Other Emotional Abuse
Writing can help with healing as both a stand-alone means and as an enhancement to other means including therapy.
Emotional abuse, especially narcissistic abuse, is extreme, constant and invasive. It is normally inflicted by someone that is personally important to the recipient and that has some level of control over them. These factors make healing very difficult. We victims need all the help and tools we can get.
Writing is an exceptional means for healing because of the following:
· It provides an opportunity to record what happened so that no one can confuse you about your memory.
· It offers a chance to “dump” the horror. It can be very cleansing.
· It helps you clarify things because it uses a different part of your brain than the part that experienced the traumas.
· It supplies you a document that you can share with others if desired or needed.
· It can enhance and compliment therapy by reinforcing, expanding and describing.
· It helps you to share with other victims and sharing is important because it proves that you are not alone.
· It allows you to speak your truth when it is hard to find your voice.
