Sometimes Narcissists Don’t Discard, They Demote
It all depends on what they want out of the victim.
In the fantasy world of narcissists people are just game pieces. Narcissists feel totally comfortable moving people around to accomplish whatever the narcissist needs that year, week, day or even moment.
Anyone who has had any kind of relationship with a narcissist knows that they will discard people from their lives. However many times the narcissist doesn’t want to eliminate a piece (person) from the game. They just want the piece (person) in a different place or role. Remember that the game is all about the narcissist and their needs. Sometimes what the narcissist needs is to demote one of their game pieces to a less important role.
Here are some reasons a narcissist will demote a person in their fantasy world.
· The other person is getting too much attention and must be demeaned or side-lined so that the narcissist gets the attention they deserve. Keep in mind that a narcissist thinks that ANY attention given to someone else is attention denied them.
· The other person is looking better physically than the narcissist and changes have to be made to keep that person out of site, so they are demoted to a more behind the scenes role.
